The views of trust members are represented by a Council of Governors made up of trust staff, service users and carers, the public and invited governors. In all, there are 47 governors of Oxleas. The Council of Governors is made up of both elected and appointed governors. More than half the Council of Governors are elected by local people. Appointed governors include representatives of the local primary care trusts (PCTs), local authorities and other local partnership organisations.
Governors give up their time voluntarily, but are supported and given training to help them gain the skills to contribute effectively and understand the way the trust works. The governors do not ’run the trust’, the Board of Directors does that, but the governors hold them to account.
