Young members
During 2008/09, we have focused on increasing membership amongst young people (14 to 25 year olds). To support this, in July 2008, the trust launched a dedicated website for children and adolescents with mental health problems www.CamhsCares.nhs.uk
In October 2008 we participated in a conference at the Priory School, Orpington, to provide information for young people on keeping mentally well, and to raise awareness of mental health issues and trust membership. Similar visits are planned to other local schools in the future.
Escape magazine
Following the visit to the Priory School, the trust, the school and the news agency, Headliners, have collaborated to produce a mental health-themed magazine for young people, Escape. Seven young pupils from the school’s sixth form have been trained by professional journalists in the skills to plan, research, write, edit and design the Escape health and wellbeing magazine (1.7MB) which has been sent to all secondary schools, youth centres, libraries and GP surgeries across Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich.
